Presentations at Natagriwal’s Scientific Support Day
Three members of SYTRA spoke at Natagriwal's annual scientific exchange and support day for advisors, dedicated to the issue of reducing pesticide use and associated risks.
Presentation
The Sytra team would like to thank Natagriwal for inviting them to contribute to discussions with its advisers and staff on supporting pesticide risk reduction.
Below you will find the information provided by our team during this intervention:
1) Introduction by Pr. Philippe Baret: What system-wide approaches can effectively reduce pesticide use?
A 5-step intervention:
- Some contrasting visions, and a nuanced reality
- What is the starting point and timeframe for action?
- Coexistence of production methods
- Trends and concepts: The nourishing illusion, agricultural exceptionalism, projectification
- Proposal for a new conceptual framework for choosing and envisaging the future(s)
2) The Harmonised Pesticide Load Indicator (HPLI) as a multi-scale tool for risk monitoring?
Crossed feedbacks from field (Natagriwal) and research experience (Sytra).
- Noé Vandevoorde (SYTRA): Key adaptations made to the Danish indicator for replication in Wallonia and across Europe.
- Emilie Cordier (Natagriwal): Feedback as a diagnostic tool at the farm level within the Terraé network
- Antoine Squilbin (SYTRA): Feedback as a tool for monitoring risk across the territory (multi-sector scenario planning project with stakeholders).
