The new project Semences d’Ici aims to promote seed production and the adoption of vegetables varieties suitable for the region of Wallonia.

Over the period 2023-2026, this project will address the following questions: Which varieties can be produced and are relevant for the cultivation of vegetables in Wallonia, in terms of reproducible varieties? What types of contracts and fair prices should be practiced between seed producers (multipliers) and seed companies, depending on the species? What are the technical, economic and organizational needs to facilitate seed production? What financing methods can be considered to support the sector?
Expected results
- Documentation of technical routes to link the operational needs of market gardeners to the feasibility of production in Wallonia
- Market study to identify strategic varietal choices.
- Development of contractual tools and a fair price benchmark, with a view to equitable and sustainable development of the sector.
- Assessment of needs in terms of management and coverage of agroecological innovation risk
- Characterization of technico-economic models of seed multiplication and essential success factors
- Design of the tools necessary for setting up a selection program
